Payment & Security Policy
How we take payment, and how we keep it safe
Whether you're paying in full for a set of nano ring extensions or splitting the cost of a clip-in set with Klarna, this page explains exactly which payment methods we accept, how each transaction is protected, and what UK law says about your rights as a paying customer.
The payment methods accepted at hairisland.co.uk
You can pay for your nano ring extensions, clip-ins or aftercare essentials using any of the following methods at checkout. All prices are shown in Pounds Sterling (GBP) and include UK VAT where applicable, so the total you see at checkout is the total you pay.
Visa
Debit and credit, protected by 3D Secure.
Mastercard
Debit and credit, protected by 3D Secure.
American Express
Full-payment card, protected by SafeKey.
Klarna
Pay now, or spread the cost — FCA-regulated.
A note on card networks: the Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Klarna marks shown above are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used here purely to identify the payment methods available at our checkout. Hair Island is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these companies.
From basket to confirmation, in four steps
Every order placed on hairisland.co.uk moves through the same secure sequence, regardless of which payment method you choose.
Encrypted checkout
Your basket, address and payment details travel over an encrypted (TLS/SSL) connection the moment you reach checkout.
Card or Klarna authentication
Card payments are verified through 3D Secure; Klarna orders are assessed instantly against its own eligibility and affordability checks.
Fraud & risk screening
Automated checks review each order for signs of fraud before it's approved for dispatch, protecting both you and us.
Confirmation & dispatch
Once payment clears, you'll receive an order confirmation by email, followed by dispatch and tracking details.
How your payment details are protected
PCI DSS-compliant processing
Card payments are handled by our payment gateway, which is certified to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) — the global benchmark for safely processing, storing and transmitting card data.
End-to-end encryption
Every page of our checkout runs over HTTPS with TLS encryption, scrambling your card and personal details as they travel between your browser and our payment provider.
3D Secure & Strong Customer Authentication
Card payments are checked using 3D Secure (Verified by Visa, Mastercard Identity Check, or Amex SafeKey), satisfying the Strong Customer Authentication rules under the UK Payment Services Regulations 2017.
Tokenisation, not storage
We never see or store your full card number, expiry date or CVV. Your details are replaced with a secure token by our payment provider, so even our own staff can't access your full card details.
Address & card verification
Address Verification Service (AVS) and CVV checks are run automatically on card payments, helping to confirm that the person paying is the genuine cardholder.
Ongoing fraud monitoring
Orders are continuously screened for unusual patterns. If something looks out of place, we may pause an order and contact you directly before it's dispatched.
How our Klarna option works, and what it means for you
Klarna is offered at checkout as an alternative way to pay for your extensions or aftercare order — either in full, or spread across instalments. It's provided directly by Klarna Bank AB, not by Hair Island, and is subject to Klarna's own terms as well as the regulatory protections below.
Eligibility & checks
Full details of fees, instalment dates and what happens if a payment is missed are set out in Klarna's own terms, shown to you before you confirm a Klarna order.
Your regulatory protections
From 15 July 2026, Buy Now, Pay Later products such as Klarna's instalment plans are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK. This means Klarna must carry out proper affordability checks, give you clear pre-contract information, and support you if you fall into financial difficulty.
If something goes wrong with a Klarna-financed purchase, you can raise it with Klarna directly, and — where the FCA's rules apply — escalate an unresolved complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. For card purchases between £100 and £30,000, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 may also give you a right to claim against your card provider.
Declined payments, refunds & chargebacks
My payment was declined — why?
Declines are usually issued by your card provider or Klarna, not by us — common causes include insufficient funds, incorrect card details, expired cards, or your bank's own fraud checks flagging an unfamiliar transaction. Try re-entering your details or contact your card issuer directly; if the problem continues, our team is happy to help you find another way to pay.
How and when will I be refunded?
Approved refunds are always returned to the original payment method — the same card, or your Klarna account — never to a different card or by bank transfer. Timing and eligibility for a refund depend on the reason for it, so please see our Refund Policy and Cancellation Policy for the specific windows that apply.
What if I don't recognise a charge?
Please contact us first at hello@hairisland.co.uk so we can check it against your order history — most "unrecognised" charges turn out to match a genuine order under a slightly different billing description. If we can't resolve it together, you're entitled to raise a chargeback dispute with your card issuer or Klarna.
Do you ever charge my card before dispatch?
Card payments are authorised and captured at the point you place your order, so that we can begin preparing it straight away. If an item you've ordered is unexpectedly unavailable, we'll contact you promptly to offer a refund or an alternative.
What you see is what you pay
All prices on hairisland.co.uk are displayed in Pounds Sterling and include UK VAT where applicable. Delivery charges, where they apply, are shown clearly before you enter payment details — never added as a surprise at the final step. Any Klarna instalment amounts shown at checkout reflect the full order total split evenly, with no hidden interest added by Hair Island.
No surcharges for how you pay
We don't charge extra for using a particular card type or for choosing Klarna over paying in full — the price of your extensions or aftercare products stays the same whichever accepted method you use.

This policy is written to comply with the following UK legislation and regulatory frameworks governing how online retailers take and protect payment.

- Brings Klarna and similar instalment products under Financial Conduct Authority oversight, requiring affordability checks, clear pre-contract information, and access to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
- UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018
- Governs how any personal data linked to your payment (such as billing details) is collected, secured and used, as set out in our Privacy Policy.
- Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024
- Requires fair, transparent pricing and prohibits misleading claims about cost, payment terms or discounts anywhere on our store.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015
