02 — Nature of Our Business

Hair Island Limited operates an online-only retail business, trading exclusively through hairisland.co.uk, selling 100% double-drawn Remy human hair extensions and related aftercare products directly to UK consumers.

Nano ring hair extensions

Fitted strand by strand for controlled density and long-term wear. View the range.

Clip-in hair extensions

Lightweight, flat-at-the-root pieces for instant, temporary transformation. View the range.

Accessories & aftercare

We are a retailer and, for certain third-party branded aftercare lines, a distributor. We do not manufacture cosmetic products ourselves. Where we sell branded cosmetic products manufactured by a third party, the relevant manufacturer or its appointed Responsible Person holds the primary regulatory obligations for that product under UK cosmetics law, as explained in Section 06.

03 — Website Hosting & Platform

Who technically runs the website

Shopify acts as our data processor and technology provider; Hair Island Limited remains the trader, data controller, and legally responsible party for the content, products and transactions on this website. Full detail on how your data is handled is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Payment providers

Payments are processed by regulated third-party providers, including Shopify Payments and Klarna Bank AB, in addition to standard card networks (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). See our Terms of Service for accepted payment methods.

05 — Regulation Across England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland

One set of consumer laws, enforced locally

The core consumer protection legislation listed in Section 04 applies uniformly across the whole of the United Kingdom. What differs between the UK's nations is which local body enforces it and, in a small number of cases, how disputes are escalated.

England & Wales

Enforced locally by Trading Standards Services under the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). Our courts of jurisdiction, as set out in our Terms of Service, sit here.

Scotland

Enforced by local Trading Standards within Scottish local authorities. Scots contract law applies certain remedies (such as rejection periods) with minor procedural differences from England and Wales, though your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 remain the same.

Northern Ireland

Enforced by the Trading Standards Service within local district councils, alongside consumer advice provided by Consumerline. UK-wide consumer legislation applies in full.

National advice service

Consumers anywhere in the UK can get free, independent guidance from the Citizens Advice consumer helpline at 0808 223 1133, regardless of which nation they live in.

06 — Regulatory Notes by Product Type

How each part of our range is regulated

Different products in our range sit under slightly different regulatory regimes. Here is exactly which rules apply to what.

Nano ring & clip-in hair extensions

Treated as general consumer goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the General Product Safety Regulations 2005; hair extensions are not classified as cosmetic products, medical devices, or restricted goods.

Sulfate-free shampoos & conditioners

Classified as cosmetic products under the UK Cosmetics Regulation. Each product must have a nominated Responsible Person, a Cosmetic Product Safety Report, and be notified via the UK's SCPN (Submit Cosmetic Product Notification) portal before sale — obligations held by the product's manufacturer or brand owner, verified by us before listing.

Extension brushes & storage solutions

Regulated as general consumer goods under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, requiring that they are safe for their intended and reasonably foreseeable use.

Metal & hardware components

Micro-rings and clip hardware used in our extensions are sourced to meet applicable UK material safety expectations for prolonged skin contact.

If you have a specific regulatory query about a product — for example, a request for a Cosmetic Product Safety Report reference — contact us at hello@hairisland.co.uk and we will direct your query to the relevant brand or manufacturer where we are not the Responsible Person ourselves.

07 — Advertising, Pricing & Google Shopping Compliance

How we represent our products and prices

In addition to the consumer protection framework above, our product listings, pricing, and advertising — including any shopping ads shown for hairisland.co.uk — follow these principles.

Accurate pricing

All prices shown are in GBP, inclusive of applicable UK VAT, in line with the Price Marking Order 2004 and CAP/BCAP advertising codes.

Clear delivery costs

Any delivery charge is shown clearly at checkout before you confirm your order — see our Shipping Policy.

Honest product claims

We do not make misleading claims about origin, composition, or performance of our extensions or aftercare products, in line with the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Restricted content

We do not sell counterfeit, prohibited, or age-restricted goods, and our checkout enforces the UK-only, 18+ eligibility set out in our Terms of Service.

Formal proceedings

As set out in our Terms of Service, any formal dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform no longer accepts complaints involving UK traders following the UK's departure from the EU, and is not available for disputes with Hair Island Limited.
