Privacy Opt-Out Request Form
Tell us what you'd rather we didn't do with your data
You're always in control of how hairisland.co.uk uses your personal information. This page lets you opt out of marketing communications, personalised advertising, non-essential cookies, and other optional processing — using a single, simple request form. This is separate from, and doesn't affect, your order history or your ability to shop with us.
What you can opt out of
Under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), you have the right to object to certain uses of your personal data at any time, without needing to give a reason. Here's what that covers on hairisland.co.uk.
Marketing emails & SMS
Newsletters, new-range announcements, shade-match reminders, restock alerts, and promotional offers sent by email or text.
Personalised offers & profiling
Using your browsing or purchase history to tailor which products, shades or offers we show you, on-site or in ads.
Non-essential cookies & analytics
Cookies and similar technologies used for analytics, personalisation and advertising — separate from the strictly necessary cookies that keep your basket and checkout working.
Sharing with advertising partners
Sharing pseudonymised identifiers with advertising and social media platforms so we can show you (or stop showing you) relevant ads for our products elsewhere online.
Postal marketing
Printed catalogues, look-books or promotional mailers sent to your home address, where we hold one on file.
Telephone marketing
Outbound marketing calls — although we don't currently make these, you can pre-emptively record a preference against your account.
Your legal right to object, explained simply
Article 21 of the UK GDPR gives you an absolute right to stop direct marketing at any time — we must comply immediately, no questions asked. Where we rely on "legitimate interests" for other optional processing, such as some personalisation, you can also object, and we'll stop unless we can show compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, or the processing is needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
Three ways to opt out
Choose whichever route is quickest for you — you don't need to use all three, and none of them cost anything.
Every marketing email
Use the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any marketing email we've sent you — this updates your preferences instantly, with no need to contact us.
Cookie preferences
Adjust or withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time through the cookie preference manager, accessible via the icon in the corner of any page on hairisland.co.uk, or in your browser's own privacy settings.
The model form below
For anything else — profiling, ad-partner sharing, postal or telephone marketing, or opting out across the board — copy the model form below into an email or letter and send it to us.

From your request to it taking effect
We verify it's really you
To stop the wrong account being changed, we may confirm a few details — such as your order number or the email address on file — before actioning your request. This is a standard UK GDPR safeguard, not a delay tactic.
We action your request without undue delay
Unsubscribe links and cookie-preference changes take effect immediately. Requests made via the model form or by email are actioned as soon as possible, and always within one calendar month of receipt, as required by Article 12 of the UK GDPR. If your request is complex, we can extend this by a further two months, and we'll explain why within the first month if that's needed.
We confirm it's done
We'll email you to confirm which preferences have been updated, so you have a record for your own files.
What stays the same
Opting out of marketing never affects order confirmations, shipping and delivery updates, returns or cancellation correspondence, or other service messages we're required to send you to fulfil your contract with us. Strictly necessary cookies needed to use the checkout also remain active, as they aren't covered by PECR consent requirements.
Changing your mind later
You can opt back in at any time — for example, by ticking the marketing box again at checkout, adjusting your cookie preferences, or emailing us. There's no limit on how often you can update your preferences in either direction.
How opting out affects data we share with others
Opting out through this form also instructs the categories of third party we work with to stop using your data for the relevant purpose, wherever that's technically possible for that category.
For the full, named list of processors and cookie categories we use, see our Privacy Policy.
This is one of several data rights you hold
Opting out of marketing and optional processing is separate from your other UK GDPR rights — including the right to access a copy of your data, correct inaccuracies, request erasure, restrict processing, or receive your data in a portable format. Full details of all of these, and how to exercise them, are set out in our Privacy Policy.
The UK law behind this policy
This Privacy Opt-Out Request Form has been written to comply with the following active UK legislation and regulatory guidance.
What governs your right to opt out
- UK GDPR, Article 21 (Right to object)
- Gives you an absolute right to stop direct marketing at any time, and a qualified right to object to other legitimate-interest processing.
- UK GDPR, Article 12 (Timeframes)
- Sets the one-month deadline for us to act on your request, extendable by up to two further months for complex cases, always free of charge.
- Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)
- Requires your consent for non-essential cookies and for most email, SMS and telephone marketing, and requires that consent be as easy to withdraw as it was to give.
- Data Protection Act 2018
- Sits alongside the UK GDPR to set out how organisations in the UK must handle personal data and respond to individuals exercising their rights.
- Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024
- Reinforces fair-trading standards, including honest and unambiguous presentation of marketing consent and preference choices.
- ICO regulatory guidance
- The Information Commissioner's Office publishes detailed guidance on the right to object and on cookie consent, which this page follows.
Raising a concern about how we've handled your request
If you're unhappy with how we've dealt with your opt-out request, please tell us first via hello@hairisland.co.uk so we can put things right. You also have the right to complain directly to the UK's independent data protection regulator at any time.

A few specific scenarios, answered
Will opting out delete my account or order history?
No. Opting out only stops the specific type(s) of processing you've selected — it doesn't delete your account, close it, or remove your order history, which we retain to meet our accounting and consumer-protection obligations. If you'd like your data erased entirely, that's a separate request covered in our Privacy Policy.
Can I opt out of some things but not others?
Yes. Tick only the boxes on the model form that apply to you — for example, you can stop marketing emails while still allowing analytics cookies, or vice versa. Your preferences are recorded individually, not all-or-nothing, unless you tick the "everything" option.
How do you check the request is really from me?
We'll ask you to confirm the email address linked to your marketing preferences or account, and may ask for your order number where relevant. This protects you from someone else changing your preferences without your knowledge, and is a standard step under UK GDPR.
I already unsubscribed from emails — why did I get another one?
Genuine order confirmations, shipping updates and service notices will still reach you, as these aren't marketing. If you've received a promotional email after unsubscribing, please contact us straight away with the date and subject line so we can investigate and correct it.
Does this form work for someone shopping on my behalf, or a gift order?
Preferences are tied to the email address used to place the order or sign up to marketing. If a gift recipient wants to opt out of communications sent to their own address, they should submit the form using that address rather than the purchaser's.
